Family Therapy

Families carry patterns too.

The same dynamics, the same roles, the same arguments — passed down and replayed across generations until someone decides to do something different. Sometimes the most important work happens when more than one person is in the room.

What brings families in

Families come to therapy for many reasons — a child or adolescent struggling emotionally or behaviourally, conflict between parents and adult children, blended family tensions, the aftermath of a loss or major transition, or a general sense that the family system isn’t working and nobody quite knows why.

Often what looks like one person’s problem is actually the whole family’s pattern. When one member is in distress, the entire system feels it.

How I work with families

I am trained in family systems therapy and work with families on a selective basis. Drawing on Bowen Family Systems Theory and related approaches, I help families understand the patterns beneath the conflict — the triangles, the roles, the unspoken rules that have quietly governed how the family operates for years.

Family therapy isn’t about assigning blame or taking sides. It’s about helping each person in the room see themselves and each other more clearly — and creating the conditions for something new to emerge.

A note on availability

Family therapy requires careful scheduling and a genuine commitment from all involved. I take on family work selectively, based on fit and availability. If you’re wondering whether family therapy might be right for your situation, reach out and we can talk it through.
